Do you know? by David MauriceDo you know that
there are people
who are waiting in lineups
for things they don't want
things they don't need
things they never wanted
to believe in yourself
not in plastic or paper
believe in yourself
because life
it does taper
to a point
that is flickering
in the night like a candle
burning small
against the coming darkness,
the coming ages, the wax
pooling round your feet
in a macabre train left behind
wedding of wings to sun
beddings afire
Do you know that
there are children
who are waiting in lineups
for food that they want
food that they need
food they crave
so desperately
give of yourself before
taking a number
give without asking
break yourself asunder
Do you know?

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 11/24/12 at 02:39 PM This is so timely in the event of our Black Friday madness. The whole stanza that follows "life it does taper to a point" is just magic in its imagery. |
Posted by Charlie Morgan on 11/28/12 at 01:05 AM ...a delightfully stated saddness of the throes of humanity. |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 11/29/12 at 01:43 AM Very well put, Dave. So true. Reminds me of that passage in the bible about charity. Can't remember the exact words, something like whatever you give here on Earth, you will receive double in Heaven. |
