Too Big To Fail

by Kristina Woodhill

Oh, Sandy
you are the real thing
the diva with no agenda
but to rail, rant,
explore your octaves
soaring, spinning topics aside

sea gulls and terns
swoop to your arias
sail inland only
to digest swallowing
whole your wailing
unedited commentary

You, Sandy
covering coastlines
contested
controversial
coerced
co-opted

you sweep away innuendo
wash down
boardwalks
of peg-legged crooks
raze wobbly tables
of years of cooked books

you cause the big voices
that must be heard
to fly their feeble coops
their staged tight fences flattened
like cardboard egg cartons
they claim nest new beginnings

You scramble us, Sandy,
every crack in our shells
revealed

Very well stated poetically, Kris. We may even get the tail end of Sandy here in Ottawa by tomorrow. Lots of rain predicted.
