Whispers

by Jody Pratt

This whispered crack from which the night
breaks the seal of the door
of which the darkness starts to creep,
the haven of the mind shall disappear.

The whispered howl of the wind
that pushes by and breaks within;
the shattered night and frightened eyes
of she who sits and waits alive.

The whispered creak of her chair
as she leans to see what might appear,
and whispered creak upon the floor
from where her feet lean ever more.

A silent whisper from the open door
without a word tells her more,
her breath a whisper no more heard
as she waits a moment... moments more.

A heated whisper from the fire
which crackles, moans and withers low;
retreating from the darkened cold
and leaves the woman all alone.

A ghostly whisper says her name as
shadows fall upon the floor as
the silence seems to hold her soul as
its broken by a slamming door.

Whispers in her mind say flee but
she knows not where to go;
between her and the endless night
something lurks to seize her soul.

Whispering madness from the hall
this woman's will begins to pale;
begins to heed the call to it
which fire's will does not impale.

Whispers make the room so small,
hardly heard at all.
A window whispered caw-caw, and
chokes upon itself with what it saw.

Lurking! Eek! I like the building tension in this and the horror un-described at the end. Happy Halloween month!

Nice suspense, supernatural piece, just before Halloween.

This is fabulous! It would make an excellent POTD on Halloween!
