Tuesday's Toast by Chris Sorrenti
Back to work
after a three day weekend
and not even at the office yet
already stressed to the tits
as my girlfriend would say
I stop at the cafeteria
for some cooked bread
à la peanut butter
TOUJOURS LE BEURRE !
I remind my surrogate mother
audaciously
but with a smile
responding to her question
from behind the glass counter
she then proceeds
to make love to both slices
with a wide bladed knife
no part left untouched
middle to one corner
rotate ninety degrees
middle to second corner
rotate ninety degrees
enough to cover all with
only one scoop of butter
humming merrily
cette grand-mère
au bons vivants
as she goes
JE DIS MERCI !
and with coffee and toast
fully decompressed
by her demonstration of TLC
I head off to my own version
of a toaster oven
