Millennium

this is a brand new road we travel
uncharted on any map
though our direction
laid out eons ago
Y2K passed
before it’s even reached
letting science be our guide
confident the ageless one
intended it this way
still showing faith
in a higher power
whilst no shame
believing in ourselves
as continents once marooned us
so too this planet now
ever stronger the stars
calling upon our species
to see the road ahead
we need only look behind

Seems the future is just going to be a vast, conforming suburb of the soul, and it may be that community will be just another commodity, a product to be sold at a profit. Beware that. I'm amazed at all the emotions this short poem brings to me, looking back at hopes and seeing the quagmire we are in today. Oh, sigh..... |
