starts with one to
dull or mask pain
creates another
liquid infusions
mix and bubble
multiple tubes connecting

veins skin eyes heavy
brain numb
breath shallower
downward spiral
away from health
infected too connected
unable to swallow

no matter
pick line installed
direct hits

Author's Note: A true story...watching my Dad as he is struggling to recover from a couple of surgeries and stuck in the hospital on mega-multiple drugs for pain and other issues... sigh MFS

Sometimes we just have to trust the doctors even though it can be hard. Great write lady. I hope he is strong enough to recover!

I'm sorry MFS. It's difficult watching a loved one suffer through that, or, perhaps in this case, be made mind numb through western medicine. I'll definitely keep you guys in my prayers.

I am sorry to hear about your dad, nevertheless this is a fine poem to him.

I can totally relate, MF. My father was on a cocktail of drugs; everything from vitamins to blood thinners. He passed away last week of complications from viral infections and a massive heart attack; was 86 and unhappy, so a blessing in disguise.
