For you by Michael NillYou were the best thing that ever happened to me.
Every blue-eyed smile and
the way your nose twitched just so when you laughed
called me to dive into the beautiful
sunlit waters of our future
but you cut the electricity
and turned our tranquil pool into murky sludge
I fashioned you an eel and swam away
to keep from drowning in your memory
And I slew you daily with my poison tongue and lecherous hands
but each time your face fell, my soul leaked out onto the ground
to mingle with every tear I shed in the cold of a bed without your warmth
and I could not survive without you, so much a part of me, so
to heal myself I changed my colors, to fly your banner above my head and
sail any sea at your side
because I love you enough to write hack poetry on a site for masters
and always will.

| Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 10/08/12 at 12:48 AM Excellent choice for POTD. Far from hack poetry. The first two stanzas together could easily stand on their own as a poem...the poem, but then we would miss out on that powerful closing in the last two lines. |
