where's that dang head at by Morgan D Hafelei wonder
where i would be
with sincere words
with truth on my lips
instead of lies burning
through ears eager to soak up
anything that is just
real
enough.
i suck down
another cigarette
and feel my lungs
painted black
and blue
and i roll my tar
covered heart like a bowling
ball down the lane
hoping to knock your
pins
over
i wake up
from the day
and listen to the words of
forgotten prophets.
i sicken myself
with thoughts of self righteousness
and practices that fall
closely in line.
my eyes are dry but the sun
doesn't care
and i burn like paper
blown ash in the wind 02/22/2012 Author's Note: this is a practice in spontaneity.
so is life.

Posted by Anya Kaats on 02/23/12 at 02:12 PM wow, this is fantastic. i can so relate to its realness. “my eyes are dry but the sun doesn’t care” never thought something so simple and mundane could sound/feel so beautiful. |
Posted by Shannon McEwen on 02/25/12 at 10:16 PM I particularly love the first stanza, I really relate to it |
Posted by Laura Doom on 02/26/12 at 12:50 PM Well, I would say that I so relate to this, but as it's all lies, I'll just say it woke me from an otherwise predictably prosaic day...

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 02/26/12 at 09:54 PM Excellent piece of writing Morgan. Quite revealing, and brave, factoring in the confessional style. |
Posted by Sarah Wolf on 03/05/12 at 06:49 PM I love your tar covered heart :) |
