Rent Free by Kristina Woodhillarachnid,
you are my
refrigerator light
out of sight
you have to be
a squashed
accordion
of eight
flat notes
yet
each time
my house
says “ah”
you act like
the door latch
hatched you whole
a perfect pop-up
character,
a fuzzy
center fold
I peek,
your octoeyes
read me
calmly
I peer,
you're fully dressed,
no mirror attends,
your mending done
I squirm,
no Poe screams
pierce
these ears
as I slide
male door
to female frame;
you seem to think
their marriage
a long term haven
for your webbery
into witch
no
black raven
can thrust
its beak;
did you speak?
woman, i will tell
you my clue
to long,
unharried life
keep all eights
securely framed
your inside too firm footed
those outside too firmly beaked

Posted by Linda Fuller on 02/15/12 at 11:44 PM Kristina, this is quite wonderful! It is certainly one of my favorites of your poems. Some terrific and original imagery and a subject matter dear to my heart, as I have a pet house spider, who currently eats baby crickets, 13 cents a pop at Petco. There are many tiny creatures your friend may be eating...I hope. We wondered, when "Spidey" was young and living on the bathroom sink, what he was eating, as we never saw anything in his scanty web. We decided he was a "special needs" spider and started feeding him fruit flies, $10 a jar at Petco. This was two years ago, and now he lives in an 8" square vivarium. But I digress...excellent, charming poem! |

Posted by Joan Serratelli on 04/19/12 at 03:57 PM Even my daughter who is allergic to every insect in the world would love this. Who could not love it? I love the portrait you painted. ou are one of those few gifted poets who can make a poem on any topic. |
