Paradise Hands

by Gregory R Schelske

Paradise hands
of an orchard angel -
those crooked and dirty
dime-store fingers
that carved the soil
and fed the crows

One hundred years of sun and breeze -
broken nails and citrus smiles
her paradise hands,
so calloused and fragile
when we carried her to her grave.

As unique a eulogy as I have read.
