Otherlife

by Alison McKenzie

Alternate reality,
Manifestation of impossibilities,
Absolute seduction
Of my finest dreams -

No comparison shall ever
Speak the names
Of yesterday’s
Treacherous path;

Oh, I shall not.

That today’s brilliant fibers
Should shine luminous
Under a storm-ridden Sun;

That on present whispers
Should flow such swollen rivers
Robust of adoration,
Devotion and love;

Whose fingers in my hair
Should find the silk of
A woman felled by love,
A woman transported
From fated winter ice
To the favor of youth
In a new spring.

These are the markers
Of a turned world,
A million de ja vu’s
In the early melt
Of a long frozen vein.

Author's Note: This is how it feels to discover myself in an "otherlife",
so far far far from where I thought I'd be on January 28, 2012.
It is an amazing journey, and I've been blessed with a partner who is so kind,
so full of joy and laughter. How "we" came to be is still a sweet
and astonishing mystery.

Congratulations lady, how I hope beyond hope that this lasts for as long as you need it.

Congratulations, Ali girl. I swear that I can see your glow and feel it's warmth ALL the way over here!

Very Shakespearean, Alison...great intensity!

I love this, I love the line about comparing yesterday's treacherous past, and how you became alive in the end...I wish I had more intelligent things to say lol but this is really good, and worthy of potd, any day
