A moment to wonder

by Shannon McEwen

The weathered wind spins out of control
Collecting remnants of every old fear

Creating little pockets of calm
In the ever gyrating wave of tears

Rummaging the little snippets of reel
Running through the collected years

Tripping over the yellowed pages
Playing leap frog with dogged ears

Refusing to see the pain etched in lines
Plugging all the holes so it can’t hear

And looking for the next thrill
Accepting all new volunteers

I fear we can never plug all te wholes m'lady. They are part of a life we struggle to make what we wish it would be and life has a way of throwing reality up at us we least expect it. You have a way with words that I really enjoy and I feel the fear in them. Re-running the reel has never worked for me. One must 'stay the course' or try to change it and sometimes that is impossible to do. I have one advantage over you. My reel has run about as long as I could expect it to and it will be time sooner than I wish for a different projectionist to take over.

I don't have to wonder a moment to know immediately that this poem resonates deeply in me. Shannon, you have captured and expressed and rendered beauty in the moment for all of us to see.

Your words and structure make a fine couplet with enviable six-appeal...

And a moment of poignant nostalgia. Both graphic in portrayal and symbolism.
