Soulful Antithesis

by Jody Pratt

Abaft the soul, lurks the abash;
the hyena which heckles from hind wind,
as it would a lion facing extinction.
Abandoned albeit afloat, you are apprehensive,
awkwardly approaching affiliates
like they are dangerous, unpredictable and deliberate.

Your soul is oblivious to rest
whilst imagined Abel in distress,
amidst Cain circumnavigating your axis;
painted with axes and happy abortionists.
Absurdly appropriate, ignorance and extortionists exhibit
harmonious coexistence like a child's innocence.

An actor and a catalyst; you insist in pretending
to persist against being a self-determinist. Affixed with
the notion you are external to your own existence.
Self-affinity begins with acknowledgment and acceptance;
achieved only after awareness annexes indifference
and oneness arises.

I'm not as convinced as you seem to be regarding 'children's innocence. The first step to losing it is either when the first slap on butt is received or when someone says the first "No!". From there it is only a slow roll down the hill to 'The Lord of the Flies'.

...how interesting that I recognize indifference annexes awareness, as the final move...a sort of getting back for having the courage to care in the first place...awareness fades, indifferene just seeminly is....

I believe that indifference is what kills the soul..not evil itself..we can't begin until we wish to do so..Brilliant write and much what I see too! Thank you!

I was the rock in your sling moving around your a-world unaffixed but unabashed, a moth trying to find a place to light amidst all the movement. This is a clever piece with a hip-hop feel. I love the genius last line with which you rewarded me after the exciting journey. Thanks, Jody.
