Blowing out the birthday candles

by Shannon McEwen

No diamond rings
Expensive gifts
Or fancy cars

Forget about the
immense dreams
or endless wishes

Fancy bows
With shiny wrapping
Is not required

Just show me
In a real way
that I matter

Sounds reasonable. There's an honesty about this that's well-told

Awww...isn't that what we all need? Not material rewards..just acceptance? So well said. Thank you!

A wish? A retrospective? Perusal of the list suggests it could be either, and this poses more questions than it answers -- the signature of good writing.

Short, simple...but quite the impact. Excellent closure in that last stanza; what I think...hope we all wish for.

I love how the style of the write matches the message. Simple, honest and true.
