Rain

by Glenn Currier

In the soundless morning
before the others awaken
I hear the soft hoof beats
of rain on the roof.

Inside are two voices:

A child ‘s chagrin
over a morning in the house
alone with a mom
nervous and brittle as china
afraid to be handled.

A man
grateful for a dry safe home
remembering the story
of the family living in a truck.

What is it about rain
that calls me
from the empty cellar
within?

Nice, I like it. :) I especially like the fact that you reminded me of rain on a rooftops. That is one of my favorite sounds in the world.

"soft hoof beats" is a great 'visual' auditory for rain on the roof. I like the idea of two voices here, and especially that "deep cellar within."

Excellent work. Your rain conjures up the cozy innocence of youth and the less comfortable times recognized in maturity. Very vivid, very thoughtful, very enjoyable. I loved the setting or the scene also.

Considering that all it has been doing here..rain..but then what is sunshine without the rain? certainly not as welcomed..great write. You described it so well, the emotions are stirring or is that thunder?

Thoughtful reflection on a common occurrence. Apt symbolism. Rain can be cleansing and cooling as well as soaking and depressing!
