$#%@ I contemplate on the drive home by Shannon McEwenBeautiful summer horizon
But the moon sits oddly left
Even stranger desire
To uproot and replant trees
To centre the moon
On my left, the gas station,
Is gas really that expensive?
When I have so much to give
For free?
On my right, three people
Walking
Side by side
Cell phones pressed to avid ears
I wonder
Conference call?

Posted by Steven Kenworthy on 10/09/11 at 05:53 AM love the re-arranging bit...very poetic and dreamy inside that head. :) how is this even explicit?...or did i miss a whole chunk of purpose? ahh...i'm getting old. XOXO |

Posted by JJ Johnson on 11/08/11 at 11:40 AM I enjoyed reading this. I wrote one not too long ago about my experience riding in a car while the drivers in other cars were talking on phones, among other things, called "Who’s in Control Here!?" A different point of view, but that's what makes life interesting. I know people who sit next to each other and text each other, so conference calling on the street is not so far fetched an idea nowadays. I wonder if people pay as little attention to traffic while walking and talking as they do while driving? Once they hear the thump, it's too late... jj |
Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 01/24/12 at 05:36 PM this is a lovely scene you paint, Shannon, which most likely would have gone unnoticed if you hadn't come along to register it in such a poetic way. yes, love is still free, I think, as gas should be, but isn't, because when anyone fills their tank, it is all about driving around and finding love, which is free, I think. hey love, get in the car, the tank is full, but my purse is empty, so lass, blame my poverty on the gas, not I. |
