A Creature of Habitual Discomfort by Laura DoomNo-one needs to know
what goes on in the mind
of a bitch who has regained
control of her tail. She is used
to being chased, but happier
when chaste; the wag and wave
of extroversion flourishes a trait
she likes to keep to herself.
Territory shifts like sexuality
behind bars, marked out by the bark
of trees, by whistles in the piercing
wind; a landscape littered
with jawbones frozen by a moment's
misconception, and justice miscarried
in the heat of strategic withdrawal.
An abstract expression rolls shadows
across contours cut and dried
beneath an incurable unease
that parodies her setting smile. 09/28/2011 Posted on 09/28/2011 Copyright © 2024 Laura Doom

Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 09/29/11 at 02:05 PM I really dig the desolate landscape of this piece. I think I've been around those parts a couple of times. |
Posted by Tony Whitaker on 09/30/11 at 08:37 PM OOOOH! AAAAAH! What a sensual beast pf a piece your words have become. Into my favorites this one goes. Meow!!! |
Posted by Ken Harnisch on 10/01/11 at 11:23 AM ah, I just loved that first line and found myself bobbing my head like, well, a puppy dog reading the rest...Spot on,Laura, as you guys say! |
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 10/01/11 at 03:21 PM So disturbingly delicious, from the "bark of trees..", the whole jawbone scene, to the "setting smile". |
Posted by Amy Manning on 10/04/11 at 11:54 AM I love this. The comparison to a bitch in heat immedietly caught my attention. |
Posted by Elizabeth Jill on 10/04/11 at 01:24 PM Another thing I enjoy about reading you is your word placements and turn-of-phrases. Rereading culls yet another complete new interpretation. Or maybe this is me. "delicious", like Kristina says. Always |

Posted by Max Bouillet on 10/21/11 at 11:02 PM The sensuality just under the surface –it is now controlled, private and solitary. Instituting self-imposed restrictions, expressing complex emotions, and placing it all behind a smile. :) |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 12/10/11 at 12:04 AM Brilliant use of vocabulary to deliver the message...Love every part of it. Definitely stirs an emotional response in me; a great mixture of darkness and light, from what it is and what it expresses. Good to read you again Laura. |
