Darwin (right or wrong)

by George Hoerner

I don’t know but
There is an issue.
We are young from
Zero to the late twenties

I know, I know
Those from thirteen
To twenty nine
Refuse to be
In the same category

From thirty to
Fifty nine or so
We are ‘middle aged’

Then sixty to
Whatever is
‘old’

I know, I know
But listen
The issue is
We play
For thirty years

We’re productive
For thirty years
And then

We play again
For how long

Well we’ve changed
Some what since
We started to
Walk erect
But is it fast enough

To let us survive
Recently it has
Become obvious
That we haven’t
Learned to make
The best decisions
Regarding a number
Of items

1 Like controlling population
Maybe that should
Be left to chance

2 Like not ruining
The earth’s environment

3 Like not stopping
The frivolous manner
Politicians deal with
Serious economic,
Military issues, and the
General welfare
Of all people

Darwin help!!

Why hasn’t ‘nature’
Pushed back the age
Of fertility in both
Men and women
To maybe forty

Why hasn’t
Natural selection
Extended the ‘productive’
Years to say
One hundred and fifty

To give us
A fighting chance
We need to improve
Our ability to
Communicate
Know the ramifications
Of our decisions
Beyond the end
Of our nose

Please Mr. Darwin
From your grave
Can’t you speed up
Evolution??

Oh man, how I can relate! Sometimes I look at our species and wonder how we ever got the idea that we were higher in the animal kingdom. Good humorous twist on pressing problems. Thanks George. I enjoyed this one.

I think, George, that Darwin is too busy evolving from bone to dust, to heed your call. as great as this ode is, I fear., my brother, Darwin has lost his vision as well his hearing and it is up to those who are as yet evolving above ground to pick up the slack. I don't think there is a communal solution to this problem but as all politics is local, that is where the locale of the solution lies, outer the provinces and more specifically, in each individual.
