Blue Moon, With or Without the Orange

Time to rise up and claim your
Destiny
It’s the summer
And the sweet, lazy season is just
Too good to let another go floating by
I’ve watched you in the shadows:
Your skin is paste;
Your soul is mayonnaise.
And yet you leave the door wide open
Wanting to dare the sun
Well, come on out!
He’s as excited about kissing you
As you are to be kissed
He misses you, the colors
You bring to life,
And the life you bring to him
Oh I know.
It hasn’t all been easy
And just when you
Get one foot going north
It seems you slide back
Two in the other direction
It’s only been a test.
You passed, in case
You never noticed
The postings on the wall.
Now it’s time to put your brain away
And let your heart do all the dancing.
I want you to lace your fingers
Around something cold.
A Blue Moon would be perfect,
With or without the orange.
Slip outside in something
Light; say, a blowsy linen dress;
A floppy hat;
Your sultry, smiling eyes casting lasers
At the passing male parade.
There’s too much going
On for you to pass up this ride
On the merry-go-round.
The summer’s deep and green
And Life is your suitor.
He’s waiting on the porch, little girl
And in case nobody told you
He misses you as much as you miss him.

"Slip outside in something / Light; say, a blowsy linen dress; / A floppy hat;" reminds of the video for "The First Picture of You" by the Lotus Eaters, which is a great song and well worth checking out regardless of anything else. :) |
