I guess beauty really is only skin deep
and after all these years thinking
it’s what’s inside that truly counts
Was there an alternate meaning then
to the Beatles’ “Baby You’re a Rich Man”
also singing the praises of beautiful people?
And though I don’t think any of us want to look like The Elephant Man
it’s a safe bet, mutual narcissism has hit a new low
with it’s first step into the 21st century
Membership approved by current members only
with no guarantee of continuance
just ask the 5,000 who got booted off the site last year for gaining ‘holiday’ weight
But here’s the kicker
a former employee planted an 'ugly virus' in the computer system
30,000 new members automatically approved
Contacts were made
IMs sent
dates discussed
And then the owner purposely shut down the program
money was refunded to all the ‘uglies’
with a polite but firm “thanks but no thanks”
“This site is only for beautiful people
so sorry
but you don’t fit the profile”
As an anonymous commenter stated on a related news page
“I will take ugly, smart and friendly over beautiful,
insecure and stupid every time.”
Or as another put it...
”If you are attractive, as the poster proclaims,
you don't need a website to find a date.”
And finally
“Frankly, this website would be more accurately called
'shallowandsingle.com.'
Some of the most repulsive people I have met, had a great body.”

Judging each other on our exteriors is only a byproduct of the mass advertising of health and "beauty" products in everyday, overwhelming consumer world. Those that see only beauty have no brains, but those that see only brains have beauty.
Thanks for this post Chris. It's a nice reminder that I'm not the only person that thinks like this. Also thanks for the comment on Love's Infinity. I too appreciate meeting fellow Canadians on here. I really ought to start being more active here. |
