he's got it

by Charlie Morgan

i wait for the day to crack,
spill its yellow sunlight;
reptilian life can now stir,
as mamallian life starts its
trek into the unknowing day.

kitchen lights hide bruises,
and broken hearts, kids sleep
buried in the innocence of youth;
a threadbare existence of squares
and round holes, call upon St. Jude;

9-5 jobs tamp so many tightly held dreams;
a lizard awaits movements, so do others.
a lazy creek smiles its morning away;
giving life to a microcosm of animal-life.
a 5yr. old. says 'his lizards are beings;
we are human beings'. i nod, the boy has it.

What a wonderful perambulation with you and your wise 5 year old! I like the earthiness of this - especially the lizard waiting for movement. Thanks for letting me tag along, Charlie. Brilliant!

I especially like the lizard's participation here, and, of course, 5 yr old wisdom is always welcome in my world. Thank you.
