Past Magic

by Michelle Angelini

Past Magic

Two decades ago Nag Champa
worked its magic on others
Many less years since I
appreciated wholeheartedly
that “You Are So Beautiful to Me”
would caress my ears poetically
only over the airwaves.

Cocker crooned it this morning
the dagger pierced
where it had
long been ignored.

Sister Golden Hair peeks out
but doesn’t awaken.

Author's Note: This just came out this morning, but then I revised it some for clarity.

A truly beautiful poem, with an equally beautiful song subtly woven into it. Reminds me of the movie Carlito's Way, but in a good sense, how that song has pleasantly haunted me too, since I last viewed the movie.

A walk down memory lane mixed with that killer second stanza, Chelle. Congrats on POTD!
