When We Can No Longer Walk

by Peter Marinelli

When we can no longer walk,
we will dream of dancing
at the lip of the world.

We will dream of swaying our bodies
to Spring's siren songs

Bright steps will lead us
to a certain wildness,
a wildness that inhabits the horizon,
a wildness never born,
living in flesh and stone,
living in tree and bone.

When we can no longer walk,
we will dream.

We will dream of inhaling the world in every breath,
of baying at the moon,
and of dancing our days long into night.

A serious topic for anyone in middle age with their senior years on the horizon, but also made quite beautiful in the way you've expressed yourself Peter. Glad I had a chance to read this; welcome to Pathetic.org!

PS: I especially like these two lines: a wildness that inhabits the horizon, a wildness never born,...sounds Heavenly. :o)

Simply beautiful. I value my dreams in which I can savor things that are lost to me.

This has a unique cadence, unto itself...one I find soothing, like a lullabye. Welcome to the land of pathetic poets :)

this is a lovely song. lovely to hear and sung the way do here would for certain invite the wrath and envy of sirens.

This is excellent both in content (oh yes, we will continue to dream) and execution. It sits well on the lips and tongue.
And may I add my welcome to you as well. Good to have you here.
