Masks by Kristine BrieseThis is not the face I wear
when he can see me.
No, that face is smooth,
blended with foundation
for a timeless and ageless look,
and tinted with eye shadow
and blush to make me
beautiful yet subtle.
The face I wear
when I am being truthful
is dotted with freckles,
colorless and inexpressive,
with sags and bags
dripping into jowls,
and age spots to make me
ugly yet honest.
I haven't decided
which face I like best.
The one can give me
a fresh start, tempting
even though it's false.
The other tells all the
true stories of my life,
tempting even though it's true.

Posted by Ken Harnisch on 04/20/11 at 08:58 PM Either face would be lovely, Kristine, but my guess is, after "he" got to know you, you could proudly wear the honest one all the time...if he were as honest and open as you |

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 04/21/11 at 03:29 AM I like these two faces and what they signify; I like the open-ended nature of this, not knowing which you might choose. |

Masks are a foible of many beautiful women. Never quite sure if they are beautiful enough. You are.

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 04/28/11 at 01:46 AM Definitely a bonus addition to the genre of masks. This accurately reveals both sides of the coin so to speak, and yet is done with careful sensitivety to yourself and the subject. Glad I had a chance to read this; heading for my favorites! |
