a fool's game

by Kimberly Bowen

stumbling and tumbling
faster than a tongue can fixate and recreate
the perfect stanza or line to say
forty letters penned for you
terrified, too paralyzed to send just one

catch a deep breath and hold it
until the pain has faded away
twas a fool’s game to play
loved once, torn apart
loved twice, ripped asunder
came up for air, hit hard and blown over

miscalculation of the gravest sense
no chance of a deletion of your scent
not a single desire to truly try
there are lies scattered all over my eyes
but the truth beats through every heart crack

Excellent expression, choice and arrangement of words giving it great flow.

and yet it is the heartbreak which stirs us to write...the pain which inspires us to speak its name. Been there and know how you feel Kimberly. Glad you were able to put it in words,as painful as it must have been to write them.

I love the line, ---- no chance of a deletion of your scent. my sentiments exactly. it is the lover's scent left in the wake which you can't wash out of your soul, no matter what metaphorical detergents there are to try.
