There is More To Him

by James Zealy

There is more to him
Than a dispenser of medications
A book of Pharmacy Knowledge
An answer for worried customers

There is more to him
Than a beach music listener
Shag shoes dancer
Thirsty's group partner

There is more to him
Than a Carolina Fan
Analytical Observer
And sideline warrior expert

There is more to him
Than cornball jokes
Cynical comments
And intellectual opinions

There is more to him
Than a life long learner
Voracious reader
Crossword puzzle solver

There is more to him
Than a man of faith
Who served in anonymity
And desired no reward

There is more to him
Than a poppa
That exulted over each accomplishment
And relished in their adoration

There is more to him
Than a father
Of two children
Who never forgot their future

There is more to him
Than a husband
Lifelong partner
That survived all conflicts and rewards

There is more to him
Than a friend
Who was always consistent
No matter the distance

There is more to him
Than his spirit
His strength of will
That lives in all our memories

There is more to him
Than Ashes left
Of a life enjoyed
And well lived

There is more to him
As he departs
The physical realm of today
And awaits our tomorrows

There is no end to him
Only a beginning
Of his gifts of himself
To all of us who knew him

You have given us a rich look at these 30 years with your friend, who surely accomplished much and touched many.

A fine and poignant tribute - I'm sorry for your loss.

You write the most wonderful poems about the people in your life and this one is no less than the rest....it is one of your best. I hope you got through the eulogy ok...and I'm sure you did given this wonderful poetical eulogy you've shared with us. Kee, it is quite understandable if you ended up getting a little teared up in giving the eulogy--afterall, he was your life long best friend and I am so sorrowful for your loss. ~BIG HUGS and Love to you, old friend of mine

Wow! What a fitting tribute, that certainly covers all the bases. Excellent use of repetition in the first lines of each stanza.

I hug this poem. Who but a close true friend could articulate these things and place them like a path leading to that very friend?
