Dagnabbit

by Eric Hinkle

No, I'm right:
Life is a duck
billed platypus.
If you don't know
what that
means, go ask yer
grandmother -- ideally,
the living one -- unless,
of course, you believe in
the power of prayer.
I don't.
I believe in
the power of pancakes.
Blueberry.
Jumbo, juicy ones
that s q u i r t purple
in yer eye.
C'est la vie

Life is not a box of
chocolates: that's
an in-
sult to cocoa.
Instead, or rather, I mean,
perhaps life is what
you don't make of it.
All the missed boats
and trains of thought
rolling by like an
hemorrhaging antelope.
Billy the Kid once sid
the world is a stage.
I say put yer worst shoes on
and tap dance all around it
in yer Superwoman skivvies
