Dip and Drink

by Glenn Currier

I walk the sea green carpet
worn down foot by foot
aged lumber so hard
it bends the nails
of too many good intentions
fragile, fleeting inventions
born to live in light
but not old enough
to hack the underbrush
of crazy mantras
rooted in dark corners
of self doubt and judgment.

Then I happen upon a lake
waters so clear
near the shore
rocks ripple with liquid sun
and brightness of joy.
Walking farther I find holes
shadowed in sorrow
driftwood infused with pain-gray.
Lifting my head
the azure deep reveals
souls of poets
who rained their moments
shed themselves
into the abyss
for me to dip and drink.

I love "who rained their moments". Rainers. That's us...heheh. You too.

There is no doubt Glenn that poets spend more time in or near the edge of the abyss than most people. Nice write!

Yep, that does it. You and I like to write in the same style. We will experiment, but we always come back to the Tantalus of allteration, word play and the tea of imagery - steeped in madness!! Brilliant!

Great use of imagery! A lot of philosophy, a bit of sociology, wrapped in solid psychology.
