fear: an open door by Charlie Morganthe door haunts, it is ajar, inviting;
an invitation to bleed in my words;
an expression of deflation looms;
the keyboard-teeth bite my ego;
pieces too small to stand alone,
i shudder as i walk by and glance.
keep my soul closed when i pass-by.
a slight crack lets it out, loose.
my throat of thoughts choked, held in;
one letter needs to another; soon
i will be wordless; a form of non-existence.
please blow your words into an envelope:
mail it to me, keep the chain going. and
like Rita Hayworth, 'I want to Live !' 12/16/2010 Posted on 12/16/2010 Copyright © 2024 Charlie Morgan

Posted by George Hoerner on 12/17/10 at 01:39 AM Living is one thing, just existing is something else again. But you are right we all think about going on and on and on... |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 12/19/10 at 12:30 AM Yep, you DID hit the nail on the head. If I allowed my fear its seemingly inevitable conquest, I would not even approach the keyboard, much less allow it to chip away at me stroke by little stroke. Thanks, Chaz. I like this one. |

Posted by Tony Whitaker on 12/24/10 at 07:00 PM You had me at "the door haunts". But the nail was Rita Hayworth's movie from the late 50s? "I Want to Live". As a movie buff this did it and pushed this gem into my favorites!! |

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 03/27/11 at 01:11 PM The will to survive aptly conveyed, no matter whether a poet, civilian or actor...excellent way to close off with that Rita Hayworth stanza. |
Posted by James Blaylock on 03/27/11 at 08:21 PM Man, I was so enthralled with this piece! You have such a masterful touch and it shows through in all of your works, Charlie! I simple adored this stanza...
an expression of deflation looms;
the keyboard-teeth bite my ego;
And I think as writers we all know the feeling of a keyboard biting hard and deep into our tender egos! What thieves! What goons! What ghouls! What gives? But we learn where the lines are and straddle the fence accordingly. lol |
