Champagne Skies

by Kristina Woodhill

Santa in disguise
slid casually
from eager eyes,
those lookers
on-the-look
for wrapped
up goodies -
Quelle surprise!

Santa shed his beard
and shinnied
down a few
round
pounds,
leaving felted
red and trim
of white
fur on the ground

elves are in cahoots
they shine
and closet
his black
boots,
retrieving
from the racks
his fine
Essential Charcoal
suit

oxfords hug
his feet,
silk tie
a layered
red-striped
treat,
embedded
pin
a sparkling
gem,
a kiss
like sugar
sweet

as Mrs. Claus
applauds
and giggles,
wriggling
into gown
of mauve,
softest
satin
setting
off
her
twinkling
eyes
in love

elves
are grinning
ear to ear,
their gift
certificate
this year
a star-lit
dinner
set amidst
the champagne skies
so clear

suspended
as their goblet
rims
chime
one pure
note
of crystalline,
we leave them
softly whispering,
the northern lights
on dim

It sure makes one start to enjoy the Christmas season. Thanks Kristina!

The title just called to me and the poem was adorably cute and sentimental. Lovely and entertaining.

This is so precious. You had me enjoying all the childhood Christmas allusions, my eyes twinkling thinking about the red and the satin and the mauve. And then I got all mushy romantic inside with the clinking goblets. Delightful read. Thanks for the smile and the Christmas cheer.

A quite different view of Santa and his world. Some glitter, a little glamor, and lots of fun!

A wonderful, warm, romantic read indeed!
