The Nor' Eastern Cycle by Anita MacThe day covers me,
a cool blanket against
the achy turmoil of
all-summer-long.
This is the New England of childhood:
a creamy sort of afternoon.
I sigh a sigh that carries
back to cemeteries,
the sentinels of one-room schoolhouses
across the region,
echoing the sentiment forward.
This is what we do,
this is how we work,
and if we stop—
the Cold will surely have us…

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 11/04/10 at 03:43 PM I like this kind of day, how you embrace it and offer it to me. I would like to read more of "what we do" and "how we work". I like seeing the contrast between the cool blanket and the ever underlying "Cold". |

Posted by Therese Elaine on 11/10/10 at 04:14 AM The line, 'a creamy sort of afternoon' is absolutely delectable...this poem has both simplicity and complex richness and I love that you can both admire it as a whole and sink your fingers in and pick out plums...lovely, Anita! |
