Calling All Vampires by Chris Sorrenti
for Anne Rice
Calling all vampires
drinks are on me
but don't suck too hard
leave just a little of that vital essence
to blossom, grow strong with you
into preternatural darkness
philosophize what'd never've been
locked tragically in mortal lifespan
Then, we can discuss the fall of Rome
or the downside of a thousand year Reich
leap a few tall buildings
and never have to come down
save Hell's bells tolling the rising sun
then it's back into the ground
after a quick nightcap of that priceless Burgundy
No I'm not talking Dracula
that uptight Hollywood fantasy
too easily dissuaded with wooden stakes
garlic and crucifixes
more the fanged superman, Lestat
something nasty with a bite of romance
to see the centuries through
now that we are abandoned
by God...and the Devil too
For the innocent will be left alone
it's crime itself we'll feast upon
all manner of vermin who dare tread our domain
the deathwish thundering in our ears
from their twisted hearts
shouting psychically from their veins

Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 10/31/10 at 07:18 PM Love this Chris....there are many manifestations of those dark forces that have pushed so much into its black hole. I like how you expand to millennia. Good day for this musing. Delighted. Thanks. |
