Storm Bringer

by Chris Sorrenti

there’s a storm a comin’

like you’ve never seen

better learn to fly high child

better learn to swim deep

how well you know

the light in the darkness

darkness in the day

all this talk of fire and flood

more than gossip and hearsay

ends joined together

as previously unimagined

that invisible knot tied

across the universe

explanations conveyed

through proper diplomatic channels

the code words

long since placed in every ocean

on every planet in every system

in case you should be passing by

differences despite despites

some glaringly simple

others shouting in their complexity

well I’m not so sure

as our spiritual bloodlines

mixing ever mixing

in a neo primordial soup

and so how does it feel

to soar so confidently

in the sea of words?

my fellow amoeba

sometimes ahead of me

other times behind

but always together

for now

enjoy the dry season

no matter if it lasts

lost are the jitters

of an occasional cruise on the surface

as all too well you know

come tomorrow

this masterpiece of madness

you won’t recognize

storm bringer

stirring such sweet hurricanes in me

you dancer of paradigm

so gracefully

to that romantic stretch of time

that causes even galaxies

to tremble in their infinity

yes child

from humble beginnings

mighty things do come

like the breadcrumbs

in Hansel and Gretel

you leave fractions of yourself

at every evolutionary junction

yesterday’s adventures

in the poetry system

daring you

to playfully tweak the peripherals

of this spider’s world wide web

for a preview of the new technology

a well placed mess kept ever tidy

for all things within

without me

especially you especially you

and so tell me

what shall we two be?

this time round

we shape shifting aliens

that need no full moon to howl

If CHR$=MCP-1 Then Read

yes

there’s a storm a comin’

like you’ve never seen

better learn to fly high child

better learn to swim deep

batten down those empty pages

as so often you have

and someday in a future legend

the disciples will say

she was the light in his darkness

the darkness in his day

Wow, Chris....really like this. And, "she was the light in his darkness/the darkness in his day"...is so apt, super closer for this poem. Joni Mitchell once sang, "laughing and crying, you know it's the same release"....Delighted. Thanks.

I love the movement in this poem, the trope of the storm without, within, and between. My favorite stanza the one with: "you dancer of paradigm." You are some kind of meterologist, my friend. Thanks for this great poem.

A mixture of metaphysics and that special kind of romance which really makes two one!
