The Pearl

by Marina Dawn

You try to hold the pearl
in your mouth, like a metaphor.

You think, This is an animal thing.
Meaning, the pearl.

Trying to hold it--
that part, that human part.

You like this, how
it makes you remember the act of creation.

Having made this small wonder
from a piece of grit.

i enjoy the way that you write, and how the moments are slow and deliberate, i mean the moments in the universe of the poem. this is a sad and sweet poem.

The word "primordial" comes to mind when I read this. I'm a bit fuzzy on the definition, but it popped into my head as I reached the end and tried to come up with a comment. At any rate, this was definitely an interesting and awesome write.

A fine POTD. A simple act provokes deep thought - a wonderfully human poem. Thank you.
