Beyond the Crisp

by Alison McKenzie

I have never loved past neutral,
Dipped into that sanguine pool
And laid upon the shore to crisp.

Only this time
I want to experience the next;
And my curiosity
Has relit the fire of my torch;
And I plan on traveling through the night
To reach it.

It is...and worth the trip to the flame, even through the night...i've re-read this one over and over and contemplated it in all the facets each reading opens to me, Alison

curiosity might have killed the cat, but what's life worth without it?

Ah, but likely someone has loved you past neutral...

How creative this thought is, and how fine to understand the possibilities. Journey forth, Alson, face to the sun!

Great spiritual poem Alison; moving on no matter the difficulty, if having to travel through night, which can be taken both metaphorically and in concrete terms. Aptly expressed, with a catchy romantic sub-tone.

Loved the presentation of this, the laying out - the exposure, as you decide to move to the "next".

Wanted to start out the new year with my favorite writers and found this clever piece. I do need to visit more often as I hate missing my favorite writers as their works hits that Top Ten list as I am sure this did. I loved this "seductive" write Al-i-son!
