Toe in the Pool - By: Paul Lorenz and Glenn Currier by Glenn CurrierToe in the Pool
By: Paul Lorenz and Glenn Currier
sometimes in the evening
muscles tired like my hope
dare I hurl me?
hesitate
one toe
I may plunge
what can I find
true about me
in this pause?
I hurt, I want,
this pause may last
too long
what particle of joy
awaits my toe
in that pool?
wonder and question
how deep the water
how deep the need
I feel about
in the darkness
for my willingness
eyes closed
last breath and I break
surface tension
I twist
and fall
into the bright moment
found within and
outward
boundless with no fear 07/05/2010 Author's Note: A collaborative effort between me and Paul Lorenz. It was fun working with such a creative artist.

Posted by Morgan D Hafele on 07/06/10 at 03:54 AM rather than a pool i felt like i was getting ready for a jump into a calm ocean from a boat just floating on a peaceful night. |
Posted by Paul Lastovica on 07/06/10 at 09:15 AM all it takes to free ourselves from fear is that first leap into the unknown. And i too sensed the ocean rather than a pool =) |
Posted by Joan Serratelli on 07/06/10 at 05:56 PM This piece is so vivid. It makes me want to go for a swim. The images here are real. Brilliant collab! |
Posted by Therese Elaine on 07/06/10 at 08:53 PM That split-second bit of exhilaration, when we jump, when we risk it all in weightless freefall...we are more ourselves, more alive, more fragile and indestructible, than at any other time...at times it is agony to imagine taking the plunge, but when we do, we can thrive off of that split-second moment, no matter what may come afterwards. Gentlemen, this is a fantastic write -I hope we may look forward to other collaborations! |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 07/08/10 at 04:45 PM The message works both in concrete terms as well as metaphoric. I like that, coupled with the well placed line breaks and overall poetics. Hat's off to both of you Glenn and Paul. |
Posted by Charlie Morgan on 07/08/10 at 05:55 PM ...born of water, we go back to Mama, yet in what Linda says: so much in a nanosecond of the unknown. hat's off from me, boys. |
Posted by Max Bouillet on 07/09/10 at 01:38 AM Hesitation, anticipation, and determination. Interesting imagery that we can take in many directions. I see the potential views for death and baptism. Deep waters flowing here. Thanks for sharing and good collab! |
Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 07/09/10 at 07:38 PM I think that we intrisically seek water, maybe it's an old "womb" thing. But we desire the full embrace that water provides. We migrate toward it and any abstraction of it. Excellent co-write. Thanks. |
