Unkind

by George Hoerner

dreams lose to
the rising sun
so let us speak
and solve the
problems of this
world and the one beyond
or at least save
ourselves from ourselves
which is this hell
we call our lives
it is the not subtle
thing we thought it
but shows instead
the giant hoof prints
of this untamed bull
mankind

Sometimes it is easier to dismiss the obvious, the deliberate...sometimes the unintentional is the most unkind...and there is a subtlety to this that is the mark of wonderful craftsmanship.

Oh man, what power in those last two lines, a final cymbal crash to the end this piece. I sure to feel the frustration and relate to it sooooo much. You do so much in a few words with this excellent poem.

...George, i wonder why i like reading your stuff [really, i don't wonder] it's because of pomes like this and what Glenn says...way out there, Bubba.

Especially liked the use of "giant hoof prints".

Yes, man is unkind, but so is nature unkind as man's nature is cruelty and disorder. But then nature isn't concerned about the internal or external worlds of man so long as he continues to procreate and die. This is really a wonderful piece, and I really appreciated the play on words and meanings in the title and last line, they are linked so beautifully. This living hell on earth may or may not be subtle when considering the barberic psychological state of the collective human consciousness, but yes, external signs of devastation are often rather blatant. I also thought the first two lines were beautiful. Thanks for sharing this very insightful and well written piece. :-)

"it is not the subtle thing we thought it, but shows instead the giant footprints of the untamed bull: mankind." Quite a line, George. And quite a thought-provoking poem!

I have lived with the "unkindness" of others for all my life. I now REFUSE to hide. I am what I am. IF my disability fascinates you; just ask me. I'll tell you all about it. DO NOT STARE! This is one hell of a write. Thanks.
