still some fools left by Charlie MorganOde to the Office of Charles Morgan
The 3rd floor is empty now.
The hallowed halls refrain only silent memories of animated discussion by great
minds that once were.
It has become a cold and lonely hallway.
No longer fit even for the weary.
Past glories are it's service.
Like a tombstone silently summoning memories that only a few could cherish, the
rest are left with a passing curiousness that they will not allow the smallest
effort of thought.
It is a greater loss than they will count.
Only I know the greatness that resided here.
Only my sorrow is meaningful and my hope must find new fields yet longing for
moments gone.
Where are the great minds now?
El Centro aches for the refreshments of scholarship.
Such is the retirement of greatness.

Posted by Jeffrey Parren on 06/08/10 at 07:54 PM chaz you should know your affect that you have on people. i am glad someone has penned it for you, and proclaiming to not be a poet this man has made a stand. "i don't think myself a poet but i want to show this teacher what he has meant to me so i will put myself out there in like fashion as he has for us." bravo to mark knight. ~JPP
Posted by Shonda Chrissonberry on 06/09/10 at 02:57 AM chaz...it would have been an honor to have attended one of your lectures...if only for one discussion...you are a wonderful mentor and example to so many....even to those of us whom have never had the priviledge of meeting you face to face...love you!!!
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 06/09/10 at 04:04 AM You mean a lot to him - it comes through clearly. Terrific tribute. I'm sure there are many more than just him to feel this way. By the way, I hope you are easing into this next phase of your life with a full heart.
Posted by Glenn Currier on 06/12/10 at 04:44 AM Poignant, Charlie. I am there with Mark, having visited that third floor corner of creativity more than once. His last line got to me and sums up the sentiments of many, I am sure. Your retirement, much deserved indeed, means that El Centro will never be the same and will have to work very hard to replace the past glories of which you were such an important part. I could go on and on, but will save some for later. I love you, man. Congratulations and now I look forward to even greater poetic offerings from Garlandway.
