Emu Poetry by Linda FullerMy sternum has no keel
It’s why I cannot fly
Besides, my wings (vestigial)
Would keep me from the sky.
You farm me for my meat
My leather and my oil
Dromaius brothers gone extinct
My habitat you spoil.
A tear slides down my pale blue neck
I pant to keep my cool
Nobody sees my bleeding heart
To you I’m just a tool.
This loneliness I feel
My pain is like a thorn
My wretched psyche wishes that
I never had been born.
