I am the Wind by Alison McKenzieSummer is wearing
All sorts of new attire this year –
Half-rainbows and sky-flames,
Thunderheads and the lowest snow levels
In centuries.
Well, as far as they know anyway.
I asked the River just this morning
How the Salmon were.
He just shrugged and kept running,
Hurrying them along,
Sharing their resolve to
Make it through the dam.
The Wind, now –
That’s an interesting character
I can’t quite get my mind
Wrapped around him this year –
Wild and strong-willed,
Stubborn and determined
To clear away all the clutter,
Howling into my yard
Like Wolf.
I am the wind.

Posted by Max Bouillet on 05/21/10 at 11:46 PM With the changes happening in our world, you bring us back to where we should have never left --nature. For some reason humankind has removed themselves from the natural order. This poem reminds us of our roots and why we should always look back to them. Great read! |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 05/23/10 at 07:21 PM Love the application of native environmentalism here. A truly unique and refreshingly different poem to read. It especially hits home, as Canada is currentlty going through a major investigation as to the disappearance of huge stocks of sockeye salmon in the Fraser River. Defintely a poem for our environmentally trouble times Alison. Despite being far away from the trouble, it still worries me about what's going on with the BP oil disaster in the Gulf. |
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 05/24/10 at 04:57 PM So now I understand all the ruckus that's been blowing in and about and through - it's been you all the time! What a wild child you are this spring - I have turned my back to you on occasion :), but I won't deny your will. |
