With or Without Words

by Julie Adams

I

We feel love with our words, open and breezy
with sunshine beaming between breaths
on a warm open terrace.

When we talk it calms residual angst of the soul,
hours flow like water music between us:
fountain, brook, and sea.

II

In the written language of words
an aviary communes in the mind, singing
the nature of truth, of love.

Each letter, word, line, metaphor—the fruits
of Eden—a sweet and succulent gift,
to share, without worry or regret.

III

We love between words, shared or implied
in the savanna of silence, we savor sweet intention
and drink it, like coconut water, from dilated pupils.

Our words, a bed of pink and yellow Poui Tree blossoms
on which we lay, imagining new expressions of love,
God smiling, inspiring ideas on the tongue.

Just wonderful and lush. I often look for refuge in a word or two which I begin to love for themselves. Resting in the heart of words, seeing clearly into the cell of a word, feeling that the word is the seed of a life, a growing dawn...a word can be a dawn and even a sure shelter, it seems. Delighted. Thanks.

"in the savanna of silence, we savor sweet intention.." In the silence of reading i savored pure poetry and loved it, Jewels!

"God smiling, inspiring ideas on the tongue" If this is God smiling, please -oh please!- get Him giggling for us? Who knows what wealth His tonsils hold... ;-D

There is such fluidity to this piece, almost how an ideal conversation should go. A moment like this does not happen very often but when it does, there can never be enough words. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this..and I second the thought about publishing this. :)
