Scones for Kristina by George Hoernergrab a bowl
throw in a cup
and say a quarter of
uncooked oatmeal
on the top add
one and a half
cups of flour
and add still
some sweet stuff
sugar either
white or brown
or “splenda”
about a quarter cup
top off with
a table spoon
house size of
baking powder
dusting it off
with a teaspoon
of white stuff
cream of tartar
your oven
should be
nearing 425
and hopefully
by now
you’ve melted
a cup minus
a third of
margarine
i use oleo
time to work
grab a fork
stir the dry stuff
till it’s quite
well mixed
and tired
also crack
an egg and
mix well
with a third
cup of cold
white milk
“discard the shell”
take all
the wet stuff
mix well
with the dry
till it makes
a soft ball size
now comes
the time to play
add large handful
of your choice
raisons or berries blue
my favorite is chopped
dried dates
but any dried
fruit should work
stir it in quite well
mix to a ball and sprinkle
with flour to handle
oh yes, spray grease
on a piazza pan
center the ball
and press into
a piazza pan shape
about 8 to 10 inches
i run a knife across
the flattened pie
either hex or octagon
to make cutting
easier after baking
bake for fourteen
minutes i turn
in the middle
let it cool
and enjoy
with little butter

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 05/22/10 at 12:04 PM poets are such great bakers. they need to be. if they are to please lovers of baked goods and yet what are great bakers lest they have the right ingredients and in the right amounts to come to such a wonderful concoction as you've baked here, George. Kristina is fortunate to have such a one as you baking such goodies. Bon Appetite! |
