Buzzing, while you sleep

by Julie Adams

My words are finding it impossible to settle down on the page!
How is a poet to write, write, write, as they should, so methodically

with all the ruckus you have caused; how it steams up my imagination
how the distractions I envision throb like an exclusive house party below;

my going down there to take care of things is futile,
like giving in to a tantrum, there is no cure in the coddling;

it only feeds the California wildfire you have lit in me
you guilty arsonist, how you’ve scorched my naked hillsides;

and all the rain in England cannot saturate me
more than you have, in your flood of intensity and fervor;

you are a steel fork to my soft underbelly, my wide-open shell,
but sideways I cannot scurry without recalling our succulent spooning;

I am a helpless insomniac, dreaming of a night filled with Zzzzzz’s
while you sleep with all that I desire, bare upon your dark sheets.

Very nice indeed...sensual, romantic, that manic state of attraction that keeps more than a few awake at night. The use of cuplets only adds to the fire...the energy...intensity. Kudos jewels!

Wonderful write, Jewels! I love the constant conflict between romance and helplessness, the plight of the poet and the lover...The imagery and flow are amazing! Keep up the good work, I look forward to reading more soon :)

I like this because it is like life interrupting the poet, just as life will always do. IMHO, acknowledging the circumstances validates the poem, and validates the poet as observer and participant. The poem rises to its own occasion, as poems must. Ejoyed this. Thanks.

Very intense indeed. I feel my insides buzzing with this. I also like how the title alludes to an alarm clock buzzing while you're trying to get those five more minutes of sleep in. A perfect metaphor for something or someone bugging your mind and heart. I feel the restlessness of you in these words. Well done.

If they had a "top ten" or for that matter a "top one hundred" I believe this would be at the top of rung the ladder. No "offensive" words just images that tweek one's imagination right where you want it tweeked. Great write lady.
