Aegis

by Aaron Blair

There are conjured angels dogging my every step.
My mother sang them into existence, presuming
that nothing more than her desire would arouse
the will of heaven to conspire to keep me safe.
Truthfully, the world is full of daggers, large and small,
and swords attached to delicate strings are suspended
in the air above all of our unsuspecting heads.
Still we believe we are asymptotes, our bodies
defying zero while our souls stretch toward infinity.
The story ends, but we will not read the book
for fear of the words written on the final page.
I wrap the cloak around me so tightly
that even the dark finds no space to enter.
I was born and I...

Great write lady. But we only call it evil because our mother's else called us good.

Another fantastic write, Aaron. I loved the whole thing, but I thought "defying zero while our souls stretch toward infinity" was particularly clever.

I enjoyed this very much. The poem itself has a very tight feeling, much like the cloak wrapped around. Intense and thoughtful. Thank you.

Excellent spiritual poem Aaron, quite profound. Definitely adding this to my favourites. Kudos!

That is quite a lot to gather from one simple thought. You do well with it, sounding like an old Greek demi god or modern superhero but with a profound touch of humanity and how we all somehow are this way.
