Humble Utterance by Alison McKenzieAnd so I live
From behind these eyes -
Earthen only in reflective pools of glass;
A view that can only occur
From the inside-out.
And what I regard
That is not inside me,
Is still inside another,
Simple components
Of a larger whole,
Teeming in quantities
Too large to calculate
With instruments made intelligent.
The spectrum of words limits,
Cannot possibly convey the entirety of it,
So many, tiny grains of expression
In the sands of existence
On a planet full of stones.
Still, I fill my brush
With humble utterance,
Stroking a scene in language,
Sending these small thoughts
Into ethers
With hope.
