A Penny for Your Pansies

by Julie Adams

How blissfully they bloom in threes
these thoughtful pansy petals—

until now I was hunting four-leaf clovers
and a field of threes never seemed enough;

if I slept deeply, soundly, now,
who would rest these velvet faces
upon my dreamy eyes, creamy and warm
with the honey milk of memory and musings;

who will bless these closed eyes
with two speckled trinities; pansy kisses
leave chakras spinning like china plates
on long poles; pansies like lily pads

over the lagoons of my eyes; the sun glistens
from under water; I sparkle and emerge
dripping with warm dreams of your kind eyes,
mine, wet and wide with love.

Author's Note: *Pansy - stems from the French "pansees" (thoughts); linked to thoughtfulness, remembrance and love; sacred to St.Valentine; emblem of the trinity...

Also, placed over the eyes of someone sleeping, the pansy can impel the dreamer to fall in love with the first person to appear.

Nice write Julie, but I always thought 3 was somewhat of awkard love affair. But then maybe not.

...julie, this is new-word city[fields of threes] [WOW!]...man o' man, you write of a dream-state, laconic/sublime, butterfly kisses will take back seat to a pansee kiss anyday, eh?

You have caught the pansy's aura so well - the velvet face, and I loved the lines - "pansy kisses leave chakras spinning like china plates on poles,". Thanks for this.

your verse breathes gentility in my eyes, which widen the more they in your words immerse.
