the girl behind the glasses

by Melissa Arel

the girl behind the glasses
with the long chestnut hair,
twists a strand around her
fingertip while perusing the
novel perched in front of her.
impervious to the stalwart
glances from the boy across
the library, she balances her
latte on a towering stack of
literature next to her seasoned
leather chair. cross-legged,
a shoe dangles curiously from
her toe as the words skip and
spill from the pages onto her lap.
the warmth of these sentences,
the perfect placement of every
comma and consonant gathers a
smile to her eyes. she glances
over the corner of her book and
notices him then, the boy with
the mischievous grin, and wonders
if he might be her perfect ending.

Great job melissa...very well done. The way in which you "stacked" your poem almost looks like a stack of books..at least that's how I picture it. Luv ya

There are few poems I would categorize as "adorable." This is one of them.

Was she ready for lunch?? Cute write lady. Very enjoyable.

And this truly has its own perfect ending. A spectacularly solid write, Melissa.

the image in the first line sparkles! my fave: "a shoe dangles curiously from her toe as the words skip and spill from the pages onto her lap." As always, you capture a moment like no other!

Most enjoyable descriptions of this whole scene and a romantic side note that adds to the story. Thank you.

Whatever the denouement, the ending is fine as it is...a 3-D piece with a light touch; should be a best-seller :>

To be a reader, a mere passerby in pathetic this week is truly a delight for the poetry and game play is at an all time high of talent and fun. Excellent work, love the words spilling and the latte balancing as is the shoe dangling, great metaphor and perfect ending. smh

I love how you turned this beautiful piece about literature into literature. Very clever. Makes me want to pick up a good book and get lost and find something I'm looking for.
