you can go now by Charlie Morgani had to wind the wind
while it wound 'round my wound;
for i had seen the scene.
and
it was winding the wrong way.
sometimes you're yin, sometimes yang.
alltimes between, tho' never in the middle.
how can that be, most ask. seldom stay,
while the answer unfolds. things!
most were hiding, still, they lay;
responsibility would not be here long.
it is such a passing thing; a notion.
promptly gave my lecture,
though classes had not begun;
we mavericks like to do that,
you know, get a head-start;
i kept punctuating my words
and before long i was talking
in semi-colons; semi-colons
are strong words, commas too;
i talk while they think;
i shouldn't do that.
the next step would be
repeat, i already said that
this generation's door is closed.
they never notice the tomorrows;
they're always dressing as today
as mist turns into sunshine;
people watch the East.
no, it's now noon, look up.
rub your eyes for clarity.
the after-image will light your way.

| Posted by V. Blake on 01/21/10 at 05:40 PM I am glad you didn't try to keep up the wordplay of the first stanza for the whole thing. Would have taken me a long time to read this! Anyway, this is the kind of haphazard wisdom that I've come to expect from a Charlie Morgan poem. Fun write, sir. :) |

| Posted by Therese Elaine on 01/22/10 at 07:56 AM Charlie, this brings a big smile to my face -I love the trickery and delicate touch that you combine seemingly effortlessly with wonderful imagery and metaphor...a piece that makes you think but you enjoy puzzling it out in your mind -wonderful! |
| Posted by Michael Smith on 01/23/10 at 08:03 PM Back in the day, one of my more interesting professors had published his teaching philosophy for all to view. Roughly, it said, "I don't consider myself a teacher because it suggests that knowledge can be unilaterally imparted." I feel similarly, of course, in that an individual is only going to learn something shared, is only going to enlighten to something given, if they are prepared to receive it. You, Sir, don't give up the good fight, and I am thankful people like you exist.

| Posted by Glenn Currier on 02/03/10 at 05:52 PM "alltimes between, tho' never in the middle." - the most profound line for me. I still linger there even after the period. Dare I take that semicolon pause to stop and listen? Dare they? Still rubbing my eyes from this brilliance. Thanks, Teach. |
