Worn

by Clara Mae Gregory

My Life’s loom is warped.
Weaving your weft through me
produced my fabric.
But the passage of time
weathers and weakens our webbing
until the day a fray
Unravels into a drafty cold hole
and there’s no one left
to mend it
and no more
patches for the old.

Loved this piece- clear, and right to the point. Well done- thanks! Happy New Year!

Wow! What a way to end the year - such a great poem, Mel. Gees, where do I start? That first powerful line sets the stage for this poignant story told with the care of a master wordweaver. It seems to me to have been sparely crafted with language distilled from a rich, textured, and interesting life. I really really love the way you have so beautifully set forth a life and relationship with the apt metaphors of fabric and loom. Mel, I think this is your best poem ever. Absolutely incredible. I will say more later after it has had a chance to settle into my consciousness. My sister in law standing here reading it said: "Oh, that's beautiful!"

This is so somber yet beautiful. It makes me want to inject life into the writer and help them renew their faith.

Oh, my, this is a finely woven piece. From beginning to end this rocks, one word perfectly fitting into the next. Glenn is right on - I think this is your best ever.

A wonderful piece of writing Clara. It would certainly deserve POTD by any standards. It is such a great reflection of life with all of its ins and outs, tears and patches. None of which any of could live without.

The Holidays inspired you wonderfully!

My first poem of the year to read and what a gem. I loved the alliteration but, more important, the message. It speaks of where I am in life. I am worn with patches that grow each year, but words such as these keep these tired bones moving and want to read more. Thank you to a friend who suggested me reading this and now I know why. This perosn knows what I like and this is absolutely stunnning. POTD material for me and into my faves!

Letting go of something what's been comforting for so long is extremely hard to do. But once ready to let go, replacing it by something new can be so rewarding. Great poem!

Yes, yes, this is good poetry! Thanks Clara Mae, the expansion of the idea is excellent and clear in its images. Delighted.

Hi Clara, It's beautiful, yet kinda sad, yet it's like out with the old year & in with the new year. Looking forward to better, & brighter future. Great write. Glenn mention this one to me. He's hit it right on the nose with this one. Hey, sweetie, it's going to be a hit!!

Beautiful metaphor. Wonderfully well written. I feel the wear of time and the sadness that there is no one there to patch the hole, to restore the wholeness of a continuing life or relationship. Very well done.

I love how you wove fabric terminology into this fine poem, and it's ending is sad, like the disintegration of antique lace :-(

Congrats lady, on POTD and certainly well judged! I hope all is well with you.
