Sips

by Glenn Currier

Is it being American
I want it in one big gulp?
It seems I think I can
get it buying in bulk.

What will it take to learn
it is not in big long trips
or even in Christmas fern
but in tiny brown drips

of leaves or washing dishes,
in the footfalls of a walk,
hearing a child’s wishes,
driving or elevator talk.

It is in the moment I find
staying for a lunar eclipse
or enjoying an old red wine
drinking in tiny sips.

And how sweet the taste of a fruit one can only eat when in season. I like the sentiment of this poem, and the carry over from stanza 2 to 3. Nice work!

Glenn, takes time to learn this, and then maybe only when we see more road behind us than ahead. If we are to get all there is out of living, we must use our time wisely, and never be in too much of a hurry to stop and savor or sip life, never losing our sense of the enormous value of a minute. Thanks.

Ah yes, we do tend to run fast toward the end grabbing with our hands as we run, missing the entire point of existence. And I still haven't really learned. Thanks for the reminder Glenn. But I sip wine slowly.

I guess the message here is that I should stick to beer, and life will be easier. ;)

Fun read Glenn. Almost Dr. Seussish in its playfulness. Merry Christmas! I'll be taking some small sips of wine also over the holiday season. :o)

Hi Glenn, Great write. Yeah, it's best to that it in with just little sips, specially if it's something one really enjoys. Fun & sweet. :) Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year.
